A Kings Thrashing

November 13th, 2009 | by luton |

Quick and Ersberg had a combined shot total of 21. That would be an average night for most goalies but on this night that was way too much, 7 of those shots turned out to be goals, every 3rd shot roughly was a goal. I know I have just begun here and I am beating this topic to death, but come on, 7 goals on 21 shots, and this was against Atlanta, not Detroit, not San Jose, Not Washington, we are talking Atlanta. Both Quick and Ersberg were atrocious tonight. Now, the Kings as a whole played absolutely awful, the forwards were terrible turning the puck over non stop, and the defence was pretty sparce, but that doesn’t excuse 7 goals on 21 shots.

The Kings couldn’t win that game anyway, they looked like they hadn’t played a game in over a year. This is what I worry about because although the Kings have looked good up to this point. If they fall apart for a few games here and there, the other teams will catch up to them. I still believe the Kings have what it takes to make it to the playoffs, but they need to figure out how not to have these mental lapses. It starts in goal. If Quick stays inconsistant, there will be trouble. Quick like Mason may be dealing with to much pressure, they both came in and took the league by storm, but they are both young and inexperienced, Ersberg can’t help Quicks situation, and thats why I think bringing in a veteran goalie would help lighten the load, and they could also help guide Quick in the right direction.

If you bring in a veteran goalie with the understanding that they would get a chance to play games, but Quick is the starting goalie and he will get the majority of the games. Bottom line is this is what needs to happen and it needs to happen sooner than later, not in March that will be too late. Dean has Ron Hextall as his assistant, and Ron Hextall should know this and he should be harping Deans ear off that this needs to happen if they want to make it to the playoffs. I shouldn’t have to be beating this to death. At least if we had legitiment rumors, that Dean Lombardi was trying to get something done that would be a start, but he needs to get something done.

Well ,thats my rant for tonight. This was just an anger blog. The game tonight just made me so angry as a fan, I want to see the Kings succeed and watching the game tonight just got to me as I am sure it did to all of you L.A. Kings fans.

Good night.
